| Customer Reviews: The Usual for "For Dummies" August 3, 2010 Michael Dominick Like most of the "For Dummies" software development books this one gives the reader a good crash course in application development. Unfortunately, it shares the "For Dummies" habit of letting typographical errors through the editing process. Luckily, I did not see any unintentional errors in the sample code, so the book is not worthless.
WHAT THIS IS NOT
This is not a reference for Objective-C. If you want an Objective-C reference, look elsewhere.
Ultimately, this book is a good choice for people interested in iPhone OS app development that have no experience developing for OS X and/or have no knowledge of iOS but is not recommended for anybody else, as there is little an experienced Apple developer will gain from it that he or she couldn't from Apple's documentation on their developer site.

i was the excited owner of this book for a few days, until i had the time to read the introduction. the section in the intro called "foolish assumptions" starts off by telling readers that you have to have an intel based macintosh with the latest OS to write iphone apps. this is unclear. is that a foolish assumption that people make and you can also write apps on a PC, or is it a foolish assumption that the authors have made, that readers would already own a mac? what with living in japan and being in america for a mere week for a wedding, i returned this book. it's too big to take back to japan if i have to buy a mac to write the app i can't find in the app store. i didn't have the time to write to the publisher/authors to find out which assumption is foolish.
